Damaging Winds Sweep Across Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas During Severe Weather on June 2nd, 2026

Severe thunderstorms on June 2, 2026, produced widespread wind damage across portions of Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas. This resulted in numerous reports of downed trees, damaged power infrastructure, blocked roadways, and scattered property damage. Meanwhile, large hail and isolated tornadoes were reported elsewhere in the United States. However, the most concentrated impacts occurred across northeast Texas, southwest Arkansas, and northwest Louisiana. In these areas, strong thunderstorm winds caused disruptions across multiple communities.

Wind Damage Concentrated Across Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas

The most significant impacts from the June 2 severe weather event occurred across portions of northeast Texas, southwest Arkansas, and northwest Louisiana. Reports from the ArkLaTex region documented numerous instances of trees falling onto roads, homes, power lines, and utility infrastructure. This happened as thunderstorms moved through during the afternoon and evening hours.

In Arkansas, damage reports were received from Hempstead, Columbia, Lafayette, and Clark Counties. In Magnolia, a fallen tree snapped two power poles near the post office. This resulted in power outages affecting portions of the downtown area. Additionally, reports described trees blocking highways and county roads near Taylor, Stamps, and Okolona.

Across northeast Texas, reports of wind damage were received from Smith, Harrison, Anderson, Nacogdoches, Angelina, Dallas, Kaufman, Parker, and Tarrant Counties. Trees were reported down in Whitehouse, Lindale, Hallsville, Marshall, Chireno, and surrounding communities. One report indicated a tree fell onto a home in Whitehouse. Additionally, reports documented downed utility poles, damaged power lines, and large tree limbs blocking roadways.

Northwest Louisiana experienced similar impacts. Reports from Webster, Claiborne, Bossier, Caddo, De Soto, Livingston, and Beauregard Parishes documented trees down across roads and neighborhoods. In Shreveport, a large tree fell onto a home on Fairfield Avenue, causing significant damage. Additional reports described downed trees, damaged power infrastructure, and travel disruptions across the region.
Taken together, these reports indicate a widespread damaging wind event. This affected communities across the ArkLaTex region, producing power outages, property damage, and transportation disruptions.

Large Hail Reported Across Parts of Texas and New Mexico

Although damaging winds were responsible for the majority of reported impacts, several storms also produced large hail.

The largest hail report of the day came from Mayhill, New Mexico. Hail measuring 3.50 inches in diameter was reported there. Hail of this size is capable of causing significant damage to vehicles, roofs, windows, and vegetation.

North Texas also experienced several notable hail reports. Egg-sized hail measuring 2.00 inches in diameter was reported near The Colony in Denton County. Additionally, reports of ping pong ball-sized hail were received from Dallas and Johnson Counties.

Additional severe weather reports were received from other parts of the country throughout the day. In Wyoming, multiple tornado reports were documented near Horse Creek and Wright. Observers reported a funnel cloud with a ground circulation near Horse Creek. This was followed by another rope-like tornado in roughly the same area. Later in the evening, emergency management officials confirmed a landspout tornado southeast of Wright. Photographs showed clear ground contact. While no significant damage was reported from these tornadoes, they highlight the variety of hazards that can develop within severe thunderstorm environments.

Elsewhere, large hail was reported across portions of the Northern Plains. In addition, measured thunderstorm wind gusts exceeded 70 mph in parts of New Mexico, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
